The Kool Boiz Foundation College Scholarships are awarded to African-American males who plan to pursue advanced education after completion of high school. The scholarship will be awarded to students who attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university or enroll in a skilled trade or credential program. To apply, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Applicants must be a resident of Youngstown, Ohio
• Applicants must be a graduating high school senior
• Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
Applicants are required to complete all parts of the application and submit an essay. The Kool Boiz Foundation College Scholarship Fund has two (2) options for funding your education:
1. College/University Scholarship:
• For students who plan to pursue a credit program at a college or university, the scholarship award is $1,000 per year (renewable each year – not to exceed 4 years, up to $4,000 total award).
• Scholarship awards are paid directly to the student for college or university programs to support education expenses. The first payment shall be made at the beginning of the Fall semester and the second at the beginning of the Spring semester for college/university students. Installments may be adjusted based on the college or university’s enrollment schedule.
2. Trade School/Non-credit Scholarship:
• For students who plan to earn a skilled trade or credential program (for example, barber school, welding, manufacturing, IT coding, etc.), the scholarship is a one-time award, up to $2,000 not to exceed the cost of the program, including exam, fees, and credentialing.
• Scholarship awards for credential programs are paid directly to the program on the student’s behalf for credential or certification programs with proof of billing. One-half will be paid at the start of the program and one-half will be paid at the midpoint.
Upon acceptance of the Kool Boiz Foundation Scholarship, award recipients must submit a copy of the acceptance letter from the college, university, or trade program. Award recipients must maintain a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university or maintain good standing for non-credit credential programs.
